Description: The naturalist intern will assist the Interpretive Naturalists with planning and conducting nature interpretation and EE program activities for a wide range of audiences; plan and conduct summer kids’ programs, plan and conduct public education programs and special events, assist with animal care and nature center display development and maintenance, writing articles and press releases. Interns are also responsible for developing one major display for the Nature Center, Jakway House, trails or wildlife display or developing one new curriculum plan. Interns will receive valuable practical experience and assume tasks of increasing responsibility.
Requirements: Applicants must have an interest in the outdoors and working with people of all ages. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing, apply knowledge and common sense to solve problems and/or achieve work objectives, have the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, possess a current valid driver’s license, and undergo background checks in reference to driving record, criminal history and child abuse registry. Post high school training or a degree in environmental education, natural resources, wildlife biology, biology/ecology or related field is preferred, but not required.
Dates: The position will begin in March or April and continue through the summer (900 hrs). Approximately 40 hours/week, with some weekends and evenings.
Stipend: AmeriCorps members are provided a living stipend of $1,150/month for the enrollment period, along with some training and equipment. After successfully completing their term of service, members also receive a $2,362 education award.
About AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps, engages more than 40,000 Americans in community-based service each year. AmeriCorps members may be granted student loan deferment during their service. After their term of service, members receive substantial education awards to help finance college or pay back student loans. However, AmeriCorps members need not be college students.

Requirements:Ability to engage in physical work that requires lifting, hiking, stooping, and wide ranges of motion. Previous experience with general maintenance, landscaping, use of farm and maintenance equipment, and care of animals and livestock is preferred. Succesful applicant must possess a current valid driver’s license, and will undergo a criminal background check.
Dates: The position begins in April, 2010 or as soon as possible in May, and will continue approximately six months. Approximately 40 hours/week, with some weekends and evenings.
Salary:
$8 - $9 per hour
